Healing
The Power of Healing
The power of healing is evident in our bodies daily. We are bombarded constantly
with many varieties of bacteria and other germs. Our body's immune system works every
moment to keep cells and organs free from outside intruders. Sometimes, however, our
immune system breaks down, and we become ill. It is during those times when we are
aware of our body's need to heal.
Every type of healing--prescription medicines, surgery, healthy food, yoga, meditation,
prayer--all utilize our body's power to heal itself. The power of healing is evident
every time we are around someone who is sick and don't get sick ourselves. We can
thank our body's power of healing for keeping us well, as there are many times when
the self-healing is below the point of consciousness. Our body is self-healing even
when we are unaware as we go on with our daily activities. Every time a sick person
breaks a fever, it is due to the body's miraculous ability to self-heal.
Factors that Affect the Body's Ability to Heal
These are some of the factors that affect the body's ability to heal itself:
- Stress - Your body's ability to heal itself is affected by the stress in your life.
We often feel stress at work, with our finances, and in our relationships. This
stress often manifests as physical symptoms such as headaches, stomachaches, body
aches, or some other ache or pain. Disease can be broken down into "dis" "ease" --
or the opposite of "at ease." It is important to learn how to handle stress in your
life so that it doesn't adversely affect your health. - Anger/Resentment - This deadly emotion affects your body in many negative ways.
It has been linked to many health problems including heart disease and digestive
problems. The simple act of forgiveness is very powerful in aiding the body's
healing response. - Jealousy - We are all jealous from time to time, and this emotion usually
comes and goes affecting most of us only mildy and temporarily. If jealousy becomes
chronic, however, it can affect our health in negative ways. Remember that everyone
has problems, even those we feel are better off than ourselves. It is important to
remind ourselves to count our blessings from time to time.
